At Lancing Day Nursery & Pre-school, we provide an opportunity for all the children in our care to embrace the joy of play and a love for learning in a safe and nurturing environment.
Our experienced practitioners encourage children to be doers and thinkers, while being curious about the environment around them. We embrace ‘in the moment learning’, allowing children to follow their interests and make discoveries organically through exploration.
Your child will have access to our outside space throughout the day, where they can investigate a range of natural and holistic resources designed to engage their senses and spark their imagination.
This approach supports our commitment to nurturing each child’s social, emotional, and physical development in a stimulating and caring environment.
We are an inclusive setting, supporting children with special educational needs and disabilities and children who speak English as an Additional Language.
Rooms
Baby Snug (3 months – 27 months)
Our cosy Baby Snug provides a calm and nurturing environment where babies feel safe, secure, and well supported as they begin their early learning journey.
Children are encouraged to develop their gross motor skills through age-appropriate movement experiences such as tummy time, crawling, climbing, cruising, and guided physical play. These opportunities help build strength, coordination, and confidence at a pace that feels right for each child.
Alongside physical development, babies enjoy a rich variety of sensory experiences, including music, traditional nursery rhymes, singing, and exploratory play. Early language is nurtured through warm, responsive interactions, with our experienced practitioners modelling both verbal and non-verbal communication to support listening, understanding, and emerging speech.
Toddler Room (27 months – 3 years)
Our Toddler Room supports children as they grow in confidence and independence. At this stage, children are eager to explore, question, and test their ideas. Through carefully planned activities and purposeful play, we support their developing communication, social skills, and self-regulation.
Children enjoy imaginative role play, creative activities, sensory exploration, and early mark-making opportunities. Practitioners provide gentle guidance and encouragement, helping toddlers build independence while feeling secure and understood.
Preschool (3 – 5 years)
Preparing for school and those next big steps in education is a big deal, so in our pre-school study we focus on activities that promote reading, writing, maths and science – ensuring children are learning as they play. All activities are carefully planned to cover all areas of learning.
We also embed and embrace your child’s sense of independence, encouraging them to take control of their learning through interactions with other children. This means that your child will learn to their own agenda, with our skilled practitioners looking for the teachable moment in everything they do.
Our Outdoor Environment
Our spacious garden is a much-loved part of our nursery, thoughtfully designed to provide children of all ages with a wide range of stimulating learning opportunities. The outdoor space encourages children to explore, investigate, and develop their physical skills through active play, nature-based experiences, and creative exploration.
Whether climbing, digging, balancing, or observing the changing seasons, children benefit from daily opportunities to enjoy fresh air and movement in a safe and engaging environment…. whatever the weather.
Nursery Manager: Rachel Hughes
Rachel, who has worked in childcare since 2005, has been a part of The Nursery Family team since 2020. She first joined Lancing as Deputy Manager but was soon promoted to Manager.
In 2015, Rachel completed a foundation degree and gained her Level 5 in early childhood studies. The additional skills and knowledge she acquired, combined with the vast experience she has accrued across a variety of nursery settings, enables her to confidently support her team in developing their own practice for the benefit of all children who attend our nursery.
Parking
There is plenty of on-street parking available.
Cannot recommend this nursery highly enough. All the members of staff are so friendly, warm and welcoming. Our daughter absolutely loves attending and is always so excited to go.
